Reading a wonderful book called Tales of a Female Nomad by Rita Golden Gelman. This 60-something children's book writer from Los Angeles got divorced after 24 years and began traveling around the world, living for long periods of time in remote areas and exotic spots where she grew close to local families. Bali, Borneo, Malaysia, Mexico...she did 'em all.
For me, it's both a great read, and very inspiring--I'd say that her ability to trust people and connect emotionally, as well as her feistiness and warmth--made her successful as a traveler settling in the spots she visited.
